Latest weather predictions show that Qatar will have thunderstorms on February 14, the National Sport Day. A fresh spell of unstable weather is expected to hit the country from tomorrow evening bringing in thunderstorms. Temperature is also expected to increase slightly during the period.

A special bulletin issued by the weather bureau yesterday said Qatar is likely to be affected by low pressure in both the upper and lower atmosphere beginning tomorrow evening and last until Tuesday, February 14, night. This will be due to the deepening of the upper low pressure over northern Saudi Arabia associated with the extension of the Sudan low pressure over the Arabian Peninsula. “The unstable weather is due to low pressure in two levels of atmosphere, which is the right condition for cloud formation. The activity should start by Thursday evening and last until Tuesday,” Abdullah Mohammed Al Mannai, Acting Director of the Department of Meteorology, Civil Aviation Authority told The Peninsula.

The low pressure will gradually lead to cloud formation, with chances of scattered rains during the whole period. It will reach its maximum intensity on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday with thunderstorms at times at places. “With the cloud formation, there is more than 50% chance for rains and also thunderstorms are also expected,” Al Mannai added.

The period will also see 2 to 3 degrees Celsius rise in mercury. The maximum temperature will be 24 to 26 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature will be between 14 to 16 degrees Celsius within Doha.
During the period, winds will be light to moderate south-easterlies, becoming stronger on Sunday and Monday. The wind speed is expected to range between 18 to 25 knots, with gusts going up to 35 knots during thunderstorms. The sea height will be between 8 to 12 feet reaching 15 feet during thunderstorms. The Qatar Meteorological Department has urged all to take more caution during the period, and to follow the developments through the official website and social networking sites.

Today, the weather will be hazy at places at first becoming milder by day with some clouds. Night will be comparatively colder. The wind speed will be between 5 to 15 knots inshore, becoming variable less than 3 knots by night. Offshore, the wind speed will be between 12 to 22 knots decreasing to 25 to 12 knots by afternoon.
The temperature in Doha is expected to be between 23 and 13 degree Celsius. Messaieed and Al Wakrah would have a temperature ranging between 21 and 11 degrees Celsius. (Source)
