On Friday 9th June, and as a highlight for its first ever Ramadan celebrations, Doha Festival City, the largest entertainment, retail and hospitality destination in Qatar, managed and operated by Al-Futtaim, hosted a fun-filled Garangao extravaganza. Taking place over three-hours, the in-mall celebration saw thousands of excited children and their families visiting the mall to collect over 10,000 sweet-filled goody bags that were handed over to the visitors during the tour. Many popular brands and outlets within Doha Festival City joined in with the celebrations including Debenhams, Toys R Us, H & M, Monoprix, VOX Cinemas, iSPOT, Zara, GAP, LC Wakiki, IKEA, Marks & Spencer, Tommy Hilfiger, Popcorn Girl, Aura Living, Sharaf DG, Caboodle, McDonald’s, Riva Kids, Costa Coffee, The Children Place, Athlete’s Co. Kids, Hanna Anderson, Adidas, Tavola, Borders, Accessorize, DWELL, West Elm, Virgin Megastore, Centrepoint, Collezione and Jack & Jones.
Attending children were encouraged to dress up in traditional Qatari outfits to add even more fun to the free-of-charge Mall celebration. Each registered child that participated was given a special bag and Garangao map to venture around nearly four kilometers of space with the Musahar, to collect their goodies from participating outlets. After the Garangao tour, the children took part in the Musahar drum-making workshop, where everyone got the chance to design and build their own drum, made out of recycled tin containers.
