The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) tied up with Qatar University to launch its university drive as part of its efforts togenerateawareness on its “Our Future Lies in our Health” campaign amongst the Qatari youth. The campaign will run through until the second quarter of 2016 and focuses on three main themes;the importance of healthy eating, physical activity, and quitting smoking.

For the drive, SCH is carrying out several activities and seminars, including setting up a booth on campus in which SCH health experts shed light on general health issues. SCH specialists also hold free comprehensive medical exams for the students, including measuring BMI (body mass index), taking blood pressures, and blood sugar levels. Results are offered on the spot with the experts advising the students of next steps to improve or maintain their health.

In parallel with the booth activation, SCH will also host a ‘boot camp’ to generateawareness of personal health and the importance of physical activity. The boot camp will be held with the upstanding cooperation of Qatar University and physical fitness specialists in the aim of delivering campaign messages through an interactive and engaging platform. In addition, a session is conducted by a professional trainer to teach students the importance and benefits of a proper workout, as well as warming up and cooling down to avoid injury, several techniques and tips, and much more. This initiative also involves an influencer speaking to the participants about the benefits of the program in helping build a healthier, stronger, and better future for the people of Qatar; a vision that is shared by both Qatar University and the Supreme Council of Health.

Another activity that is taking place is the social media competition, during which the participating students are taking part in a photography contest with the hashtag #SCHUNIVERSITYDRIVE featuring photos of the best daily habits, to be showcased on Instagram. The pictures with the highest number of votes will be receiving a prize and recognition from SCH.

The drive comes as part of the Supreme Council of Health’s vision to build a healthy future for Qatar communities within its National Health Strategy 2011-2016 and in accordance with the human pillar of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
