The State of Qatar participates in 26th session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Vienna

The opening sitting of the 26th session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, was held in Vienna, Austria, on Monday May 22, 2017. The session will last until 26 May 2017.

In his speech at the opening, HE Major General Dr. Abdullah Yousuf Al-Mal, Advisor to the Minister of Interior, welcomed the efforts made by Member States to implement the Doha Declaration issued at the end of the 13th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, 2015.

His Excellency Major General Abdullah Yousuf urged all the concerned to invest all energies and potentials in confronting and curbing the criminal challenges of organized crime, corruption, drugs, money laundering and terrorism.

He also noted the importance of launching the Global Program for the implementation of the recommendations of the Doha Declaration in cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), financing its projects on youth crime prevention through sports, rehabilitation and reintegration of prisoners, education for justice, integrity of the judiciary and prevention of corruption.

He also pointed out that the State of Qatar has announced an annual prize in International Anti-Corruption Day in the name of His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, in line with international efforts to achieve integrity, transparency and fighting corruption.

In conclusion, HE Al-Mal invited Member States to support the draft resolution submitted by the States of Qatar and Japan on follow-up to the implementation of the recommendations of the Thirteenth Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice and in preparation for the Fourteenth Congress to be hosted by Japan.

The opening session was attended by HE Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al Thani, Qatar's ambassador to Austria and members of the delegation of the State of Qatar.
