The German International School started its journey in 2008, aiming to create an atmosphere of trust for children to experience, in the full knowledge that young kids learn best when they are enjoying themselves. It is part of a worldwide network of 140 German Schools and in 2018, the Doha school was awarded the seal of quality “Most Excellent German School Abroad” after successfully completing the Federal-State Inspection (BLI).

Founded by the Federal Republic of Germany and equipped with superbly qualified teachers, pupils of German International Schools receive a bilingual education in Qatar. Their first class academic quality and bicultural profile have resulted in the German International School Doha becoming one of the most outstanding schools in Qatar. The school currently educates approximately 300 pupils in total, with class size, in general, comprising a maximum of 25 students, with the average number being a comfortable 16 students.

The school consists of a Kindergarten (children between 3-6 years of age), a Primary School (grades 1 – 4) and Secondary School I and II. They teach grades 11 and 12 according to the specifications of the IB Diploma-Programme (German/English.)

Let’s take a look at the facilities that the school offers to the kindergarten children to build their bright future.

A holistic approach to learning

Kindergarten plays a vital role in early years education. With this in mind, the German International School employs play-based learning along with an interactive, child-centred curriculum and a well-structured daily and weekly rhythm. This provides a valuable framework for orientation but also instills a sense of security, reliability, and stability.

Starting in kindergarten, the school offers German-speaking children (and those who want to become German-speaking) a schooling program based on the curriculum of the federal state of Thuringia, which has been adapted to the requirements of the Supreme Education Council of Qatar. This gives students the opportunity to acquire a university entrance qualification by the end of grade 12 and also opens the opportunities to study in Germany.

Learning through playing

“The better a child can play, the better it can learn” – with this in mind, the German International School Doha places great importance on a playful learning system so that children can experiment, explore and understand a world that they create for themselves while playing. Children are provided with a fun and challenging outdoor play area with the all the essential materials suitable for role-playing and for large-scale construction, painting or handicraft and experimentation.

In free playtime in the garden, children are encouraged to experience the elements of nature such as water, sand and the air. Children climb, swing, and play with stones or wood. In moving around freely in nature, their senses of movement and balance are trained. This is how children at the German International School Doha earn the skills to build confidence and social cooperation - through joint activities such as playing together, crafting, building, inventing, telling stories, experimenting, singing, celebrating parties, making trips and laughing together.

Ensuring the best quality

The German International School Doha

To ensure the best quality of education, the school evaluates their entire educational process on a regular basis. They observe and document each child’s status to take proper action for their further development. Moreover, to ensure the best performance of the employees in kindergarten, they also arrange regular training courses so that the staff can constantly update and improve their skills. And parents are always well informed about their children’s progress through regularly scheduled meetings.

So, if you want to give your children the best possible start in the educational system and in life, the German International School, Doha, is the best choice for your loved ones, providing play-based learning alongside an interactive, child-centered curriculum.
