H.H. The Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has passed away at 91

إِنَّا لِلّهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعونَ‎

"Surely we belong to Allah and to Him shall we return"

Kuwait’s 91-year-old ruler His Highness (H.H.) Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has passed away today. He had been unwell for a while and was being treated in the US for an undisclosed medical condition.

H.H. Sheikh Sabah ruled Kuwait since January 2006. He was a great leader not only for the people of Kuwait but also helped solve regional issues over the years. He was a great ally and supporter of Qatar with which it has had brotherly relations. Ever since Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt broke diplomatic ties with Qatar on 5 June 2017, he pushed for diplomacy and acted as a mediator between the four countries and Qatar.

Just a few days ago, in remarks to Kuwait TV's programme "What's Next", His Excellency (H.E.) Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani congratulated H.H. Sheikh Sabah on his honouring the Legion of Merit. His Excellency affirmed that Qatar and the people who live there appreciate H.H. Sheikh Sabah's efforts, not only in contributing to solving the Gulf crisis, but also helping in other crises, humanitarian contributions it makes continuously, whether in Yemen or Iraq after the war, reconstruction and other humanitarian issues of the Arab peoples. He also mentioned that Kuwait had honourable stances towards Palestine and its issues, and it supports the Palestinian people in having their own state through a just and fair solution, as reported by Peninsula Qatar.

Qatari-Kuwaiti relations which are based on historical partnership, fraternal relations and a common destiny, noting the keenness of the leaders of both countries and their wisdom to elevate these relations to the highest level of harmony for the benefit of the two peoples. In fact, the unique relationship of brotherhood between the two countries is a role model for bilateral relations between brothers in the Gulf and Arab regions.

This relationship is deep-rooted and is reinforced by the wisdom and insightful vision of H.H. the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and his brother H.H. the Emir of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah.
