The Doha Summer Festival 2008 did not offer anything new, according to some longtime residents of Qatar. "It’s always the same people, same stalls and the exhibits that we get to see during the festival," said an executive who has seen the last two festivals. "The trade fair is always the same. There is no change in the stuffs but surely the prices are low, so more customers are here," said Rukhsana from Pakistan. "We didn't see the Heritage Village last time so I cannot comment on it. Apart from that, the whole thing is just a repetition." "This is a consumer fair; there is a limit to the innovations that can be made" said Maher A Eid, one of the organisers. "If people do not enjoy what is happening, then why is there always such a big crowd? All we can do is improve the products and make changes in the arrangement." The Pen It's in my opinion that some people are right. Yes it needs to expand every year, it needs NEW events every year, they need to ENCOURAGE people and SCHOOLS to get involved. Sadly though, the concept of encouragement and reward seems to be lacking. Don't get me wrong, this DSF was amazingly great, but it's well below the standard that I expect from Doha.
