When it comes to visiting a country, there are two things that people are most excited about; the landscape and food! It can’t be that you visit a place and don’t try one of their most popular cultural dishes.

If you are from the Subcontinent and love Biryani then this Qatari national dish is for you! It’s a delicious blend of rice, meat, spices and vegetables. It’s popular in any Qatari house. Since it’s the national dish, it’s easy to find around Qatar. Try it at Bait al Kuwaiti, Afghan Brothers, and Mohamed's Mom in Souq Waqif.

Mathrooba

This dish is cooked with chicken in a creamy porridge. And although it might not look tasty, it tastes delicious. It can be found at restaurants in places like Mohamed's Mom in Souq Waqif.

Margoog

This dish might remind you of pasta… but it isn’t. Made with vegetables, meat and raw bread dough, this dish is a must try! It is satisfying, saucy and light with meat in every bite. It can be found at Mashwar Al-Khaleej and Mohamed's Mom in Souq Waqif.

Ghuzi

Whole roast lamb over a bed of nutty rice. I am not a big fan of it but that shouldn’t stop you from trying it. Well, the rice is the only part I like in particular. It’s actually a tasty dish for meat-eaters. You can try it at Maskar in Al Khor, Fouj Cafe, and Afghan Brothers.

Salonah

This is a dish that has fish in it. The preparation process itself is very interesting and intriguing. You will be drooling just by the look of this dish. A new flavor for your taste buds. You can try Salonah at the Sheration and at Fouj Cafe.

Om Ali (dessert)

Now for some sweets! Although Qatari cuisine is filled with desserts, I will mention this one because it’s special. It’s a bread and rice pudding with a mouth-watering look and a heavenly taste! Eat it once and you’ll be hooked. One of the best places to try it is at the Sheraton. Probably the top establishment for Om Ali.
