His Highness The Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani is all set to meet up with the United States President Donald J. Trump on 9 July at the White House in Washington, according to a report by Al Jazeera. The two leaders will discuss the regional political situation, cooperation in counter-terrorism and security issues, as Qatar completes two years since the blockade against this oil-rich country began on 5 June 2017 by its neighbouring Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt.

According to an official statement released by the Press Secretary of the White House on 7 June 2019:

“President Donald J. Trump will welcome His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar to the White House on July 9, 2019. The visit will build on the longstanding partnership between the United States and Qatar and further strengthen our already substantial economic and security ties. The two leaders are expected to discuss regional developments, bilateral security cooperation, and counter-terrorism issues.”

Washington has not supported the blockade against Qatar, which is home to two US military bases along with the forward headquarters of the (United States ) U.S. Central Command, which has the task of overlooking the operations of the Pentagon throughout the Middle East, even though Qatar continues to support Iran, whereas other Arab nations have backed Washington’s as it pressurises Iran to back down from its nuclear energy programme amongst other issues.

This meeting between H.H. The Amir and Trump is the first time they will be meeting since Qatar’s leader visited Washington in April 2018.
