A significant drop in temperature is expected in the country next week, the Qatar Met department has said.
The mercury level may drop to 11C in Doha and below 5C in the southern parts of the country during this period, according to the weather office.
In a report on Thursday, the Met department said weather charts indicate that the country will be affected by northwesterly fresh to strong winds from January 27 night until January 29 due to the extension of a Siberian high-pressure system over the region, causing a noticeable drop in the temperature.
Wintry cold weather is expected to prevail in the country, especially at night, from January 28 until the end of the week. The temperature in Doha is likely to range between 21C and 11C at night, while the minimum in the southern areas may drop below 5C, the report states.
The wind speed is expected to range between 15 knots and 25 knots with gusts reaching 35 knots, especially on Sunday, causing blowing dust and visibility dropping to below 2km in some areas.
The sea condition is likely to be rough and the wave height may reach a high of 12ft. The Met department has urged people to be cautious and avoid venturing into the sea during this period in the view of the expected conditions, and also follow latest updates through its official social media accounts.
Meanwhile, Friday’s forecast says poor visibility (2km or less) is expected in some places in the early hours due to misty/foggy conditions. Moderate daytime conditions and a cold night are also expected.
The temperature is expected to increase slightly during the weekend, compared to the past few days, before dropping again from Sunday due to northwesterly winds.
The minimum temperature today is likely to be 11C in Abu Samra and 17C in Doha. On Thursday, the minimum was 10C in Abu Samra, while in Doha it was 16C. (Source)
