Team Malaysia Bags the 1st Prize in the National Day Quiz Doha: The Ministry of Interior (MoI) in coordination with National Day Organizing Committee and in association with Qatar Islamic Culture Center (FANAR) held a quiz contest on Thursday (16/12/2010) evening for the expatriate communities living in Qatar on the occasion of National Day celebration. More than 400 persons representing 8 communities including Indian, Pakistani, Malaysian, Indonesian, Nepalese, Filipino, Bangladeshi and Nigerian communities attended the program. The program was aimed at communicating with the expatriate communities living in Qatar on the occasion of national day celebration to strengthen the concepts of unity, loyalty and pride and to introduce to the expatriates the history of Qatar, its geography, its Arabic and Islamic traditions and customs as well as to educate them about the Founder of Modern Qatar Sheikh .Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani. Lt. Khalifa Sayed from Public Relations Department of MoI said that the Ministry had conducted this program to remind the expatriates about the founder of Qatar Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani who had ruled Qatar for 35 years starting from December 18, 1878 until his death on July 17, 1913. He also pointed that the family name Al Thani has been derived from the name of Sheikh Thani bin Mohammed father of Sheikh Mohammed bin Thani who was the first sheikh ruled the peninsula of Qatar in the mid of 19th century. He also urged to the expatriates to preserve Qatari customs and traditions derived from Islam and to maintain the security and safety in the society. The quiz contest included questions on Founder of Modern Qatar, geography of Qatar, Ministry of Interior and its services rendered through service centers, traffic law and Al-Adeed program, history of Qatar, legacy of Qatar and sports, arts and culture in Qatar. Most of the questions were answered by participating expatriate teams. Malaysian community won the first prize while Indian and Pakistani communities won second and third prizes respectively. Lt.
