A three-month old cheetah cub, found roaming the streets of Al Sukhamah area near Al Shamal, was recently captured by the authorities, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported.
The cub was trapped by Al Mazrouah Wilderness Unit of the Environment Protection Department at the Ministry of Environment (MoE) in collaboration with the patrol of Al Shamal Security Department.
MoE Operation Centre had received earlier a report by Al Shamal Security Department that a cheetah cub had escaped from its cage from a Qatari’s rest house at Al-Sukhamah area and roaming the streets freely there, causing unrest and fear among the residents.
Accordingly, a specialised team of MoE in collaboration with the security patrols managed to capture the stray animal with hunting nets and put it in a closed cage. The animal was then handed over to the zoo pending investigations to identify its owner and refer the case to the public prosecution to take necessary legal action.
