Stenden University teamed up with Red Bull Qatar to host its first Red Bull Racing Can qualifier on 02 November 2011. The twelve teams were provided with a small remote controlled car and a six-pack of Red Bull cans. Their task was to design a new body of the car using the cans of the Red Bull drink and completely removing the original body within just five days. Important was to show ingenuity and create cool designs – cool enough to fall into the creative Red Bull guidelines. Additionally, the students had to race a purpose-built track and prove that their car is not only the most creative but also the fastest. The goal of the event was to encourage ingenuity, cool designs and speed among the participating teams. The judges of the event were Nathalie Harkink, Administration Manager at Stenden University, Ilyas Inci, Industrial Placement Manager at Stenden University Qatar and Ildico Francia, Art Director at Qatar Happening Magazine. The contestants were judged on creativity, speed and timing. The first prize, an all-expense-paid trip to Formula 1 in Abu Dhabi, went to the all-girls-team Farah Zian and Milena Deltcheva. In second place was the team of Hassan Kamal Khan and Raja Abbas Khan who won a paragliding lesson. The third prize, a wakeboarding lesson, went to Reem Al Sowaidi and Eman Al Abdulla. About the event: Red Bull Racing Can is a global Student Brand Manager project designed to engage students through leveraging our Red Bull Formula 1 assets in universities. The two main aspects of Red Bull Racing Can are turning a Red Bull can into a racing car, by merging it with the chassis of a radio controlled car (provided by Red Bull) and competing in the race which takes place on campus. Through Red Bull Racing Can students are introduced to the world of Formula 1 in a bullish way with respect to body (ability to create the car/the driving itself) and mind aspects (creative design). The event delivers the opportunity for students to challenge themselves in a different and unusual way. About Stenden Qatar: Stenden Qatar opens admission applications for Spring 2012 starting 04 December 2012. Its current student body comprises 485 students from 40 different nationalities.
