Every week, ILQ features a different Qatari startup in our ‘Startup of the Week’ segment. Qatar has some of the most creative, unique, and impactful startups in the region, and we cover them all across a variety of industries in Doha, from fashion and beauty, to food and dining, health, education, sports, and more!

This week, we're sprinkling the sauce on Fries® -- the first specialty fries outlet in Qatar! With their tagline: '‏Experience fries like never before,' Fries® is glad to introduce their special Belgian-style fries which are made of premium fresh potatoes, fried in a special Belgian oil to offer crispy and golden yellow fries that are exploding with taste and experience! Their legacy of serving fries hot, golden, big, and fresh at all times is what makes its loyal customers keep coming back for more!

Besides their indulgingly-appetizing and reasonably-priced steak fries, Fries® also prides itself as a 100% Qatari startup which offers fried potatoes in a completely healthier way. Not only that, their serving portion is amazingly-tummy filling and a single cone is more than enough for one person!

Its two founders, Omar Eissa Shamiyeh and ILQ.net's very own Mr. Q Khalifa Al Haroon, opened their first branch April 1st of this year at Al Sadd Sports Club using a food trailer which was made by technology solutions provider Cosette Solutions. Shortly after that, Fries® launched their second branch on April 23 at City Center Mall at the main food court near the cinemas.

The duo thought that a stall by the cinema house is the perfect setting for their second branch as they wanted their fries to become a substitute movie snack from the usual popcorn and cola. And unlike the usual packaging, they chose to sprinkle the goodness of their product in a cone to make the carrying more handy for those moviegoers who usually have to pick up a fight just to secure the best seat inside the theater.

"We specialize in fries which are made using our customized and state-of-the-art machines which uses 70% less oil and produces 90 lbs of fried potatoes in less than an hour," exclaimed Omar, who also added that their customers loved the fries, with many of them requesting for extra melted cheese as it adds filling and tastiness to their cone-ful of healthy fries.

When asked about his advice for young entrepreneurs who are interested in establishing start-ups of their own, Omar has this to say: "Just launch your concept. Don't be scared, but also take advice from those who've already successfully established a business and consider these advice as pointers in order for you to avoid silly mistakes. This way, you won't be starting from scratch."

A regular cone—which weighs almost 270 grams—will cost you QR 15 with their Family size and Majlis size also up for grabs. Each cone is good for 5-6 people and 10-12, respectively. Fries®'s Al Sadd Club branch is open daily from 1:00PM-11:00PM and their newly-opened City Center branch's timing is from 11:00AM until 11:00PM daily. For the holy month of Ramadan, both branches are open from 6:30PM until 2:30AM.

And although Fries® didn't seek any assistance from either the Qatar Business Incubation Center (QBIC) and Digital Incubation Center (DIC), they are proud to say that despite having a really tight schedule serving fries on its two branches—with a third branch coming up—Fries® also does home catering and events catering.
