One of ILQ’s newest segments ‘Startup of the week’ features Qatar’s most creative, unique, and impactful startups every week. We cover different startups across various industries in Doha, from fashion and beauty to food and dining, health and education, and more! This week we spotlight an educational startup called myQourse.
myQourse was created to help improve people’s accessibility to different courses and education in general. Their mission is to ensure that every human has the access to education, as it’s a right to all.
Founded by Sahar Burhan Mahmoud and her son Zaid Yehia Abouqamar, myQourse aims to enhance the passion to learn among the youth and make it easier for them to find courses.
“Last July I reached an ultimate addiction with courses taking over 17 trainings, and then realized that many people approach me for guidance in their career,” said Abouqamar. “This is what made us do myQourse: to remove the silly hurdles that prohibits people from taking courses here in Qatar such as scattered course information, lack of marketing by institutions, course costs, course topics, age and gender, and most dangerously, rumors.”
myQourse is available online as a website and as a phone application. The website was developed for free, and posting online courses in Qatar is also free.
This unique and useful startup has also earned a number of different accolades:
-Bedaya’s Center Get In The Ring Finalist (March, 2017) -Reyadah’s Award Finalist (March, 2017) -Qatar Business Incubation Center Lean Accelerator Program
“We believe there is nothing greater than a child dreaming about an ambition,” said Abouqamar. “myQourse provides the necessary tools for the child to get the learning they need in order for them to follow their dreams.”
