Every week, ILQ features a different Qatari startup in our ‘Startup of the Week’ segment. Qatar has some of the most creative, unique, and impactful startups in the region, and we cover them all across a variety of industries in Doha, from fashion and beauty, to food and dining, health, education, sports, and more!

This week, we're flapping the clapper on The Talent Factory (TTF)—Middle East's premier talent agency, which is based in Doha. It prides itself as Qatar's only agency that recruits individuals from all walks of life, all ages and all shapes and sizes, offering opportunities to have fun, socialize, develop skills, build confidence and make extra money—through working on Doha events or appearing in productions for a wide range of reputable clients.

Providing a seamless service every step of the way, TTF supplies cast, talent, event staff and entertainers across the country. Their talents have already appeared on countless films, TVCs, events, photo shoots and more.

Talking to TTF's General Manager Phoebe Wallington, she noted how Qatar has quickly become an events, conference and international business hub over the past few years. Phoebe also mentioned that with more demands for these types of gatherings, the need for qualified and driven people has increased tenfold.

"We are helping businesses and organizers connect with the right people for these jobs. This works for everyone involved. From the employers to the employees. It’s creating opportunities for people from all walks of life. From short term to long term employment."

TTF has been operating since the beginning of 2015 and has steadily grown in size and success each year since. They were initially providing talent for production, but have organically developed into a trusted supplier for large scale events, and companies seeking corporate entertainment.

As TTF is an open company which hosts open casting calls monthly, the search for fresh faces and talents has always been their key aim. "The entertainment industry is still quite new here and there is a very healthy competition in the market now," Phoebe added.

When asked whether startups like TTF is beneficial to Qatar's economic growth, Phoebe has this to say: "Absolutely. The economy in Qatar is continually growing and having more and more companies in various markets only creates a healthier industry. The more companies that start here will allow Qatar to become more self sufficient and sustainable. Years ago, Qatar was forced to rely heavily on the surroundings countries in the Gulf, the middle East and beyond. With some much local talent blossoming here, Qatar does not need to look beyond it’s borders anymore. And that’s good for everyone."

Phoebe is also generous enough to give pointers and tips to young entrepreneurs who are planning to establish startups of their own in the future by saying that "if you have an idea and the drive to take the risk of starting your own business, there are plenty of models and investors available locally to achieve your dreams. After all, if you don’t take the initiative and chance at it… it will never happen."

Auditionees last week had the chance to register for TTF's Registration Day. For those who are also interested to try their luck and share their talent, TTF is most likely to conduct another Registration Day once Ramadan concludes.
