This week, we're handing the joystick to Geek and Games (GAG) -- Qatar's one-stop online shop for video games, consoles, board games, LEGO, nerf guns, and other geek related merchandise. Some of Gag's key services include providing toys and video games at a cheaper price with delivery options, renting out Lego and Nerf guns, and running geek events for Qatar's ever-growing geek community like trading card games, board games, and video games competitions.
Jason Dean, one of Gag's mighty founders, said that their gaming rental business is relevant to Qatar because they're trying some new ideas that have never been done in the country before such as toy rentals.
"We are only on our first few days of operation and so far, the reception from our early customers has been good," Jason cited. With a well-received concept and reasonable prices on game deliveries and rentals, Jason is optimistic that Gag will soon have a cult following in Qatar.
His co-founder Ali Al Majed -- who is Qatari -- added: "We are trying to increase our presence through a lot of community events and fairs. We love going out there and meeting fellow game fans."
The two young entrepreneurs also mentioned the promising future of video and table top gaming in the country. Highlighting their staff's incomparable experience in the gaming industry, they assured a great experience for gamers who attend and participate on their events.
Timothy Carr, one of Gag's many satisfied customers, wrote on Facebook: "Super friendly and super fast service. I for one abhor digital downloads and all the licensing issues that come with them. I want a hard copy disc in my hand so this service is the balls! Plus I got the game the same day I ordered it delivered to my door! Definitely buying all my console games from Gag from now on for sure!"
When asked about their advice for young entrepreneurs who are also seeking to open their own business in the future, Jason and Ali -- who added that Gag is self-funded and not incubated in either the Qatar Business Incubation Center (QBIC) or Digital Incubation Center (DIC) -- has this to say: "Have a structured idea and make sure you have a solid business plan, that's all what matters besides determination and a clear goal."
Gag also facilitates Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) courses -- a type of educational discipline -- for their loyal gamers.
