Al Wa’ab City Management and Spinneys Qatar have signed an agreement to open the first Spinneys store in Qatar at the flagship multi-billion dollar project, Al Wa’ab City. Spinneys operates several outlets in Lebanon, UAE and Egypt. Sheikha Hanadi Nasser bin Khaled al-Thani, CEO of Al Wa’ab City and Michael Wright CEO of Spinneys signed the agreement. Spanning 6,585sq m of space, the ME’s premier supermarket retailer will be located adjacent to the entrance of the Barahat Al Wa’ab, Al Wa’ab City’s unique Piazza. The Spinneys outlet will be ‘a full service supermarket, but with great emphasis on fresh foods, prepared and served with the highest standards of hygiene, in a modern and comfortable shopping environment. The international sourcing power of Spinneys will bring an unrivalled range of products from around the region and the world.’ Al Wa’ab City said, “The business venture is set to raise the standards of the supermarket retail industry in the country and is a key milestone in Al Wa’ab City’s plans to offer diverse shopping choices for its future residents.” Sheikha Hanadi said, “Al Wa’ab City is privileged to welcome Spinneys to Doha, which reiterates our commitment to offer the finest retail and lifestyle choices for our residents. We are looking to promote unique experiences for our residents and the wider population in Qatar by providing unparalleled offerings. Al Wa’ab City is poised to be a lifestyle destination of choice that will energise the residential, retail and tourism concepts.” Al Wa’ab City Management has retained world class facility managers SNC Lavalin ProFac to manage and operate the entire development, ensuring a quality experience for residents, tenants, shoppers and visitors to the Al Wa’ab City project. SNC Lavalin ProFac was instrumental in brokering the agreement between Al Wa’ab City and Spinneys. Wright said: “Spinneys is on a quest to bring its unique mix of quality and superior service to the markets across the region. Keys to success are the very best of locations and in Al Wa’ab City, Spinneys has found a perfect match. Spinneys has an 85-year tradition of service in the region and is recognised as the leading premier supermarket chain, and it is with great pleasure that Spinneys looks forward to serving the consumers of Qatar.” The store will open in 2010. Al Wa’ab City is Qatar’s first family-planned community and a multi-use development conveniently located along one of Doha’s main arterial roads and in close proximity to some of Doha’s major academic institutions and sporting facilities. Al Wa’ab City integrates a wide variety of housing styles and options, small- and large-scale retail, low-rise offices, health facilities, and a world-class 200-room luxury hotel surrounding the 44,000 sq m stunning urban piazza - “Barahat Al Wa’ab”. Al Wa’ab City will be home to more than 8,000 people in approximately 2,000 residential units. The development spreads over an area of approximately 1.25mn sq m with over 10,700 underground parking lots. This gives Al Wa’ab City one of the lowest population density ratios of any new major development in the country. Al Wa’ab City is expected to be substantially completed in 2010. http://gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=274718&version=1&template_id=36&parent_id=16
