Over 40 South African companies will arrive here to take part in the ‘World Cup 2010 Legacy Exhibition’ to share their FIFA World Cup hosting experience and expertise with Qatari companies. The South African Ambassador to Qatar Saad Cachalia, and the Director General of Qatar Chamber, Remy Rowhani, yesterday said that the exhibition will be held from June 2 to 4 at St Regis Hotel. The three-day exhibition, hosted by the Embassy of South Africa in Qatar and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) of South Africa in association with Qatar Chamber (QC), will witness the presence of Elizabeth Thabethe, Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, South Africa and many other dignitaries from both sides. The DTI of South Africa aims to create stronger trade and investment ties between the two nations over the long term. “The upcoming World Cup Legacy Exhibition is part of our efforts to make the 2022 World Cup a great success. We intend to take lessons from others’ experiences to transform every stumbling block as a stepping stone to achieve the ambitious goal,” said Rowhani. The exhibition will offer a business-to-business networking opportunity for local business leaders and the organising authorities. The event will showcase the South African companies that were vital to the success of the 2010 World Cup, held in South Africa. These companies, from industries ranging from construction and supplies, security and logistics to food service, will share their experience and knowledge with Qatar-based businesses. The 2010 World Cup exhibition has previously visited Brazil and Russia, hosts of the next two World Cup tournaments. Rowhani added: “We support the Department of Trade and Industry of South Africa in bringing the 2010 World Cup Legacy Exhibition to Qatar. This event will bring value to the South African participating companies and Qatar-based companies who are looking for new business opportunities and to learn from the experience of these visitors. The QC welcomes new enterprise into Qatar and supports the diversification of the local economy.” The first day of the exhibition will kick off with an opening session featuring officials and influential speakers from Qatar and South Africa. Ambassador Cachalia said: “We are delighted to bring the World Cup 2010 Legacy Exhibition to Qatar. The companies exhibiting understand what it takes to contribute to a World Cup, and they have much to share with businesses in Qatar preparing for 2022. Our nations share not only great ambition and energy, but also strong business links. The meetings that will take place between South African and Qatar businesses over the course of the exhibition will serve to strengthen these ties and uncover new opportunities for 2022 and beyond.” Companies interested in attending the exhibition are invited to register their interest by calling 4410 3022 or sending an email to [email protected]. There will be ample opportunities to meet representatives of South African businesses and schedule meetings to discuss business opportunities. South Africa and Qatar have bilateral trade and investment relations dating back to 1994. One of South Africa’s largest companies, Sasol, is in a joint venture with Qatar Petroleum on the Oryx GTL gas-to-liquid facility in Qatar. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/qatar/238772-south-africa-brings-world-cup-expo-to-doha.html
