Palestinians, Israelis and foreign women activists showing solidarity for a Palestinian state with full UN membership during a rally at the Qalandiya checkpoint near the West Bank town of Ramallah yesterday. The posters read “Palestine, full membership at the United Nations” and “Women demand an Independent Palestine”. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has said he will demand full membership of the United Nations for a Palestinian state when he goes to the UN General Assembly next week, setting up a diplomatic clash with Israel and the United States. Yesterday, Europe joined the diplomatic tussle, calling for a “constructive solution” on Palestinian statehood and a resumption of negotiations with Israel. Gulf Times
