The culturally rich charity exhibit will feature different diplomatic conglomerates present in Qatar. Held annually, the Diplomatic Bazaar has become part of Qatar’s community fabric, designed to celebrate different cultures. The 2012 Bazaar will take place at Katara, the Cultural Village and will feature traditional food, clothes, jewellery and a selection of art and decoration items from the different participating countries. “The Diplomatic Bazaar plays multiple roles in Qatar’s community development and we are proud to hold this iconic event for the eighth consecutive year,” said Amal Al Mannai, Executive Director, SDC. “This Bazaar has successfully highlighted the presence of the Diplomatic Corps in the State of Qatar, introduced the cultures of different countries to Qatari society and to each other and more importantly continues to raise significant funds to support SDC’s community projects and initiatives.” Funds raised from the 2012 charity bazaar will be directed towards SDC’s developmental projects, which include social awareness campaigns, vocational training centers and healthcare facilities. The event was first held in 1999 to raise funds to support the design, first stage implementation, and operation of Sheikha Haya Bint Nasser Factory for Industrial Tailoring, a non-profit project developed to create job and training opportunities in the field of dressmaking. “This widely recognized success in the past years drove our decision to make the Diplomatic Bazaar an annual event which couldn’t have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the participating countries whom I would like to thank on behalf of the SDC team,” concluded Al Mannai. Prior Bazaars also contributed to the establishment of Al-Birr Residential Compound that funds the Center’s projects and the ‘Adwamahou Wa In Qall’ project, which is designed to support unprivileged families improve their financial security. - ILQ news -
