The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested a six-member gang of Asians who were involved in impersonating cops and exploiting the national dress for fraudulent activities. According to a release issued by the Ministry of Interior, the culprits belonged to one of the Asian nationalities and there were both nationals and expatriates among their victims. They were caught in an operation launched after the police received reports about a six-member gang of Asians impersonating as policemen breaking into the accommodation of residents and robbing them of their belongings including bank cards. A breakthrough came after one of the victims gave the police the identification of the leader of the gang. After a thorough investigation and collecting enough evidence, the CID personnel arrested the main suspect. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and led the officers to other members of the gang. While searching their accommodation after approval from the Public Prosecution, the police found a large amount of money, jewellery and costly watches. Also found in their possession were a number of credit cards, passports, mobile phones and tools used for their operations. After the victims identified the arrested men, they were referred to the Industrial Area Police to complete the procedure before producing them before the Public Prosecution and the court. The department concerned of the Interior Ministry has urged the public to inform the security agencies if they observed any suspicious activity. http://www.gulf-times.com/qatar/178/details/376727/-six-member-gang-held-for-impersonating-police
