The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has closed a meat shop in New Al Rayyan for a month for selling Australian mutton as Jordanian or Syrian. The shop counterfeited the country of origin of the product on display, which constitutes a violation of law No.8
for 2008.
MEC inspectors have conducted a surprise inspection campaign on a number of outlets at Barwa Village, Al Wakrah, Ezdan Mall, the Pearl-Qatar, Souq Al-Ali, and Souq Waqif. The campaign covered 400 shops of various commercial activities such as tailors, dressmakers, accessories, home appliances, jewelry, eateries, perfumes, and foodstuff. The campaign aimed at exercising a tighter control on the market to maintain stable prices.
Throughout the campaign, MEC inspectors have spotted 18 different consumer violations such as not posting price tags in Arabic, and announcing special offers and sales without prior permission.
