HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Education Above All, yesterday visited Syrian refugee camps in southern Turkey.

Her Highness visited two camps housing a total of more than 16,000 Syrian refugees coming from Aleppo, Homs, Hamma, Latakia and Idlib regions.

HH Sheikha Moza sought to assess the educational facilities and conditions for the children and teachers in these camps. She pledged her support through her programme Educate A Child, to ensure quality education for the refugee children.

As a result of her visit, possibilities for collaboration were considered as well as an exchange of knowledge between Education Above All and a number of Turkish organisations that specialise in this field, such as the Turkish Co-operation and Co-ordination Agency (TIKA) and the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).

HH Sheikha Moza visited a number of classrooms and community facilities where she spoke with teachers, parents and families about the difficulties they faced in their situations, which inhibit the provision of quality education for the children.

Her Highness was hosted by Emine Erdogan, the First Lady of Turkey, Aysenur Islam, the Turkish Minister of Family and Social Policy, and Fatma Sahin, the Mayor of Gaziantep.
