The camel racing festival to win the coveted sword of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani began Saturday on Al Shahaniya Camel Race Track from March 30 to April 10. More than 6000 camels from Qatar and elsewhere in the GCC are participating to win various valuable prizes such as golden and silver daggers in addition to the sword of HH the Emir which will be given to the winner of the final event of the festival – HH The Emir’s Main Race. The winners of the first round of races were Al Gharbiya of Nasser Mohammed Zayed Khalfan Al Mansouri, Mubarak Mohammed Al Amri and Matar Hamad Matar Al Shamsi. Races in the festival run over distances of 6, 8 and 10 kilometers. Shell signed an agreement with the Hejen racing committee to sponsor HH the Emir’s Main Race. Source : Qatar Chronicle
