The Airport Security Department at the Ministry of Interior in cooperation with Lakhwiya Force today, Monday, March 19 launched a security robot at the Hamad International Airport.

The robot in the form of a scooter can measure pulse rate remotely and also has facial recognition feature inbuilt. The robot has cameras and sensors to detect suspicious and wanted persons, fake currencies, credit cards, abandoned objects and explosive of any kind.

Brigadier Eissa Arrar Al Romaihi, Director of Airport Security Department told that the invention of the security robot would contribute to strengthen security services of the department where the device can identify suspicious passengers and stop them to carry out security inspections through the devices, which makes it easier for airport security personnel to secure the airport.

The robot can detect the forbidden things carried by the passengers that will be shown in different colours on the screens of devices with a scanner and send them to the operating room of the department at the airport.

Major Engineer Ali Rashid, head of the security technology at Lakhwiya said, "The three-wheel scooter robot is small in size allowing for free mobility across different parts of airport. It has various devices fitted on it that allows it to operate on its own."

He added that a camera stand attached near the side wheel scans every passenger, displaying the person's face, heartbeat, and identity to the official on a screen fitted near its handle. It also includes telemetry to detect stress.

Apart from that there is a small sensor near its foot stand that scans for any abandoned luggage and alerts the official. It also includes a money scanner, finger print machine in case the official requires them.

He pointed out that the device would recognize the suspects by measuring the heart rate. If it exceeds the normal limit, the device gives a signal to the security man who stops the person and searches him through the devices carried by the security robot. He noted that the natural person has feelings and that come directly from the brain through certain signals and cannot control them. Usually there would be certain signs of the abnormal persons such as high level body temperature. From these data, we have developed an algorithm that reveals people who are nervous so that security personnel can perform all other security measures.
