Doha: The Search and Follow Up Department (SFD) of the Ministry of
Interior continued its campaign against the violators of the law No.4/2009
that regulates the entry and exit of the expatriates and their residence and
sponsorship in the country.
As a result of several campaigns carried out by the SFD recently, the
Department arrested 195 illegal taxi drivers, who were running taxi services
without necessary permits from the competent authority in front of different
shopping malls, commercial centers and Doha International Airport. The
detained drivers were produced in the Public Prosecution and then, they were
transferred to the concerned court for further actions.
During the campaign, the SFD personnel also arrested 64 absconding labors,
who were working at winter camping sites against the law, which is a
common phenomenon seen during the winter season as many workers will
be working with other sponsors and this has caused spread of crimes such as
thefts and exposing the properties and lives for danger.
The arrest was occurred after inspection campaigns carried out in all winter
camping sites to trace the run away and absconding workers, to arrest them
and take legal actions against them. In addition to this, the legal actions were
also taken against the persons who employed them violating the rules and
regulations in this regard at camping sites. The punishment for violating the
residence law in Qatar is imprisonment of three years at maximum and the
fine that will not exceed QR 50000.
The detainees were produced at the office of Public Prosecution and then,
were transferred to the Court, where are facilitated at the premise of the SFD
in order to complete the procedures quickly, which include deportation from
the country or freeing them on bail.
The Department also organized another campaign to detain the wandering
vendors who sell different kinds of goods on road sides and roundabouts
illegally and 103 of them were arrested. The inspection campaign covered all
cities and areas of the country to seize the absconding and run away workers
who are a threat on the security of the country and this initiative stresses that
the Ministry of Interior is working transparently to regulate the security and
the discipline in the society.
The inspection campaigns will continue until eradicate the issue of absconding
and ran away workers from the country through carrying out inspections in
the sites and areas that employ them and the Department will impose fine and
ban the recruitment on the persons convicted of employing illegal workers
according to the law No. 4/2009.
