Last month’s deadly Villaggio fire sparked a lot of questions among Qatar residents, namely, about the safety preparedness of our institutions.
Are our schools safe? Our hospitals?
But what about us?
How would we handle an emergency, if presented with one?
Unwilling to feel as helpless as many did during that tragic day in May, a small collective of concerned citizens with support from
iLoveQatar.net have organized a new group that trains residents in the basics of home safety.
Community Initiative for Safety-Qatar, which is comprised of parents, professional trainers and community leaders, will hold its first free course on Saturday afternoon at the
Msheireb Enrichment Centre (moored off the Doha Corniche by Sheraton Park).
The two-hour introduction, which will be run in partnership with the
National Occupational Safety and Health Centre (OSHO), will cover the basics of:
Home fire safety tips
Anatomy of fire
Good practices to fire awareness
ABC of First Aid
Fundamentals of CPR
Water as a friend, not an enemy
Traveling to school safely
Safe driving
No previous experience is required, but the classes are small, accommodating about 25 people. If this upcoming one is filled up, you can indicate interest in attending one of the next classes.
At least two more will be held before Ramadan, and several more after, organizers told Doha News.
CISQ is also surveying people to see what they know about emergency safety preparedness and what they would like to know. Complete it here.
