Registration for Vodafone & QITCOM's Indie FIkra: Appathon 2012 event a huge success

Vodafone Qatar and QITCOM revealed today that registration for their Indie Fikra: Appathon 2012 event resulted in a record number of teams signing up to participate in the upcoming 48 hour coding competition. Thirty teams, boasting nearly 90 participants in total, registered to be a part of this first of its kind event in the region. Indie Fikra: Appathon 2012 will be held during QITCOM next week and is bringing together talent from all over the country to compete for over QR50,000 in cash and prizes, including an invitation to join ictQATAR's start-up incubation program Dajtala. Indie Fikra: Appathon 2012 is a race against the clock as teams have 48 hours to create a working demo for a new mobile app using the Android, BlackBerry or iOS platforms in any one of the following categories: • Apps in Arabic • Apps for Women • Apps for Games • Apps for Al Sadd Fan Club Through Indie Fikra: Appathon 2012, Vodafone and QITCOM are workingtogether to support and inspire the local mobile developer community; specifically in the areas of Arabic content and content made in and for Qatar. With experts from RIM and Vodafone Group providing mentorship sessions throughout the two day event, Indie Fikra: Appathon 2012 promises to be as rewarding as it will be challenging for all the participants. “The response from the mobile appdeveloper community to Indie Fikra: Appathon 2012 has been phenomenal,” said Khalifa Saleh Haroon, Head of Innovation and Interactive at Vodafone Qatar.
