Doha, 4 May 2010 Red Bull ‘BreaKing’ is the first Regional B-Boy (commonly known as break dancers) Championship in the Middle East, based on one to one showdowns; or ‘battles’. National ‘battles’ will take place in different countries, starting in May 2010, and two winners from each country will fly to Dubai in October to compete for the Regional Red Bull BreaKing title for 2010. The regional champion will have the chance to travel to Tokyo in November to watch the best B-Boy break dancers in the world battling at Red Bull BC One, the world's top break dance event. Qatar will constitute the opening round of the regional competition, where 16 of the best Qatari B-Boys will be battling it out on May 6, at the parking of the Mariott Hotel, starting at 6:00 pm. BACK IN THE DAY B-Boying, which is often referred to as “break dancing” or “breaking,” started during the late 1970s in the Bronx, NY and is a key feature of Hip Hop culture along with DJing, MCing and Graffiti art. The term "B-Boying," which refers to the dance, moves and lifestyle originated in New York and was coined by Kool Herc who was one of the pioneering Hip Hop DJs throwing jams in the Bronx. Today, an evolving and well connected B-Boy and B-Girl scene thrives around the world. South Korea, France and the USA boast some of the most vibrant and talented dancers on the planet. Over the last 5 years, the B-Boy scene in Middle East has been growing rapidly. Many workshops are taking place every year featuring some of the best B-Boys in the world. Now it’s the time for the talented B-Boys to shine and represent their country in Red Bull Breaking. (This competition represents an opportunity for these talented individuals to strut their stuff and represent their respective countries in the ‘Red Bull BreaKing’ competition. Competing in this prestigious event is not just about dance skills, but also reputation, character, and influence in the dance community. Therefore, innovative dancers are required to present their best moves and shows to the rhythm of some of the best music around in front of Lilou, the 2-time Red Bull BC One champion, who is going to be the main judge of this exclusive competition.
