Real Madrid veteran defender Michel Salgado is to sign for a club in Qatar, according to Spanish media sources. Sports daily AS reported that Salgado, 33, has agreed to a three-year contract with Qatar club Al Rayyan, which will earn him around $13.2m. Salgado who helped the world famous club to Champions League successes in 2000 and 2002, has been capped 53 times by Spain, the last time in 2006. If the deal goes through this will be the second time that a Real Madrid veteran has joined Al-Rayyan. Fernando Hierro, now sporting director of the Spanish national team, played one season for the Qatar club after leaving Real in 2003.
