One thing I’ve always admired is how women dress during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. Everything is more colorful and fancy, more particularly in the evenings at family gatherings, or at exclusively women’s gatherings. This is the season for jalabiyas (long embellished dresses), which are stylish, elegant, and comfortable, and kaftans (similar to jalabiyas but a little more casual). They are usually priced very differently ranging from a couple hundred riyals to a couple thousand for the more elaborately designed ones. It’s often difficult for most women to find jalabiyas or kaftans that they really like, and nowadays most designers use Instagram to showcase their designs, so it’s hard to pick with the variety of choices that are available. Of course, Doha has a wide range of talented designers, but there are some around the GCC (Kuwait, Dubai, etc.) that are also worth mentioning (and deliver across the GCC).
