Qatar Meteorology Department said that the locally famous "Al Wasmi" season begins on October 16 and lasts for 52 days.
"This season is named so because it coincides with rainfall that helps certain local plants to grow such as Helianthemum and Geranium," QMD tweeted on its account @qatarweather.
QMD added that during this season, the clouds move from west to east and that rainfall in the beginning of "Al Wasmi" indicates that it will be a good rainy season.
Based on climate records, maximum temperatures decrease gradually in Doha during this season reaching temperatures below 35C with minimum temperatures falling to about 20 C. "Overall mild temperatures during daytime and relatively cool temperatures at night especially with dry northwesterly winds", QMD added.
This transitional period brings about flu and other seasonal diseases, QMD warned. "Experts recommend taking flu vaccinations, wash hands regularly, and avoid direct contact with sick people."
