The Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (ictQATAR) is seeking views and comments from interested parties on its proposed Radio Spectrum Policy for the State of Qatar.
The Public Consultation document on the Radio Spectrum Policy was published on October 10, 2010 at this link.
Radio Spectrum is a fundamental, finite and valuable national resource which belongs to the State of Qatar, and ictQATAR is mandated to regulate and manage it on behalf of the State under Decree Law 34 of 2006 and the Telecommunications Law.
There are international regulatory frameworks for the management of spectrum, and regulators world-wide are continually reviewing the way in which spectrum policy, allocation and assignments are determined. This helps to ensure that the resource can be fairly and appropriately distributed and used to optimum national and economic benefit.
The Public consultation on Radio Spectrum Policy examines: The legislative framework in Qatar, the current Radio Spectrum Policy, and the associated licensing and processes; international developments in Radio Spectrum Policy, the administrative processes, policies and market mechanisms used in some leading administrations; the current demand for Radio Spectrum, and the future demands in Qatar; and assessment on issues on allocation, assignments and licensing.
ictQATAR will carefully consider all submissions received through the public consultation process in finalizing the Policy. The closing date for comments is November 28, 2010. Comments can be sent via email on
