Qatar University (QU) Student Services Department, in cooperation with Supreme Council of Health, began its seasonal anti- influenza immunisation campaign at the institution yesterday. Following the opening of the campaign by QU Vice-President for Student Affairs Dr Omar Al Ansari said, vaccinations against Seasonal Influenza were given to students, staff, and faculty members at the men’s campus (Students Activities Building) and women’s campus (Science Building, Food Court, and clinic). The vaccinations will be conducted at these locations from 8am to 1pm during the campaign period from October 27 to November 2. “The flu vaccine is very safe, we recommend that everyone has it, especially the students who suffer from asthma or other kidney or heart related problems, or those who live with someone who has a chronic health condition as it will help protect them and their families from catching the flu and the complications that may arise from it,” said Dr Hafsa Hashad QU Medical Clinic Director. Abdulla Al Shandoor, Director of QU Student Services Department said, “This immunisation campaign comes as part of Qatar University’s policy of ensuring the well-being of its students, staff, and faculty members, as this will reflect positively on their academic performance and their productivity. “I advise all the students not to pay attention to rumors and to seek information from the right sources.” Students were advised that the vaccination will not prevent H1N1 infection but will help in identifying suspected H1N1 cases among them as they are unlikely to develop normal flu after the vaccination http://www.thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=October2009&file=Local_News2009102871031.xml
