Qtel customers travelling out of the country can now enjoy low calling rates with Qtel’s SmartRoamer service launched yesterday, just in time for the summer break. This enhanced service will enable Qtel’s customers to benefit from standardized rates when calling home while abroad and standardized call rates across specific international zones. In particular, Qtel SmartRoamer is set to deliver highly-competitive prices for travellers using their Qtel phones within the GCC region and Asia. “Qtel is an increasingly global company, and we wanted to be able to leverage the benefits of this for our customers. Now, whenever they travel abroad, SmartRoamer will enable Qtel customers to call home – and friends and family in neighbouring countries – at a special low rate, immediately knowing how much the call will cost them,” said Dr. Nasser Marafih, Chief Executive Officer, Qtel. Shahry customers will now have access to some of the best roaming rates in the region, with local calls costing just QR1 per minute and SMS costing QR1 each. Calling home to Qatar from anywhere within the GCC will now cost only QR2 per minute and the same rate will apply for Shahry customers calling any other GCC country from within the GCC. SmartRoamer will also offer major reductions on roaming rates for data downloads, with standard rates down to QR15 per MB. In its first phase, the SmartRoamer range of services and standardized pricing structure will be made available in the GCC. Qtel is even rolling-out simplified ‘World Zone’ pricing, enabling customers to know what they will be charged for calls wherever they are in the world. Rather than different roaming charges for each country, pricing will be fixed to six key Zones - GCC; MENA; Americas; Europe; Asia and Oceania; and Africa and the Rest of the World. Major savings have been made available in key areas – particularly for calls from countries within the Europe, Middle East and Asia Zones. Unlike the roaming offerings from other international groups, SmartRoamer is available to all Qtel Shahry customers by default and without any need to activate or subscribe to the service. With presence in 17 countries, Qtel is planning a number of new innovations for international and roaming rates. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local%5FNews&subsection=Qatar+News&month=June2009&file=Local_News200906222258.xml
