Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has launched Warm Winter 2015-2016, a campaign organized for the 9th consecutive year to distribute winter aid to the poorest families and refugees in several countries.

The launch was announced in a press briefing at QRCS's headquarters, attended by Saleh bin Ali Al-Mohannadi, Secretary-General, Ahmed Al-Khulaifi, Acting Director of Financial Resources Mobilization and Investment, and Dr. Khaled Diab, Director of Relief and International Development Department.

Warm Winter is an important seasonal program organized annually by QRCS to help alleviate the suffering of the vulnerable, which get even worse during the winter.

This year, the scope of the campaign is expanded to involve QR 11 million worth of projects in favor of more than 200,000 beneficiaries, in the face of increasing numbers of victims of disasters and conflicts and their subsequently critical needs.

In his statements, Mr. Al-Mohannadi said, "Warm Winter is an annual campaign conducted by QRCS with the advent of winter to help the vulnerable, poor, and homeless families forced by war or disasters to flee their countries or destroyed homes. Their suffering is exacerbated with the cold weather, amid lack of winterization supplies such as adequate shelter, clothing, heaters, and tarpaulins."

"As the winter approached, our missions in many distressed countries planned winter relief projects for many needy families there. Execution will begin immediately to ensure better life conditions for the beneficiaries during the winter," he told the reporters.

The Secretary-General commended the great support from the State of Qatar and the generous donations of Qatar benefactors, who contributed much to save the lives of millions of children, women, patients, and elderly people.

The campaign, Dr. Diab explained, will cover Afghanistan; Yemen; Syria; Syrian refugees in Lebanon, Jordan, and Kurdistan; and Palestinian refugees in Lebanon.

Distributions will consist of winter clothes, electric heaters, tarpaulins, blankets, heating oil, schoolchildren jackets, and other forms of vital assistance against the coming months of excessive cold.

Other activities are installing thermal insulating sheets inside the tents of Syrians in Lebanon refugee camps and running workshops to help women generate income inside Syria.

He added, "This year, the target is QR 11 million, compared to QR 5 million, serving 36,000 families in Syria, 6,600 Syrian and Palestinian families in Lebanon, 2,200 Syrian families in Jordan, 5,100 Syrian and Iraqi families in Iraq, 900 families in Gaza, and 1,650 families in Afghanistan."

Regarding the means of contribution, Al-Khulaifi said the donors can visit QRCS's headquarters or Al-Khor and Women's branches, come across QRCS agents at malls, transfer to QRCS's bank account, or donate electronically via QRCS website or SMS services.
