A three-hour live-broadcast fundraiser on Tuesday as part of Qatar Solidarity Day with the People of Somalia and Philippines raised QR31m and 40 tonnes of goods worth QR1m. Qatar Petroleum donated QR2m while Qatar National Bank and RasGas donated QR1m each, organisers said yesterday. Other major donors include Qatar Islamic Bank (QR500,000), Al Tayseer (QR250,000), Lexus Engineering & Contracting Company (QR150,000), Abd Al Razaq Al Rayis (QR100,000), Al Huda for Pilgrimage (QR50,000), Qatar Volleyball Association (QR50,000), Fatma Al Rumaihi–Retaj (QR50,000), Zain Electronics (QR10,000), and Al Wakra Preparatory School for Girls (QR10,000). Relief efforts are being made in coordination with International Committee of the Red Cross; Philippine Red Cross; Somali Red Crescent and other organisations in both disaster-hit countries. The month-long campaign which started on Tuesday will focus on providing support to take steps to rush aid to victims of natural disasters in both countries. Relief will include food, non-food items, potable water, shelter, blankets, mattresses, and tarpaulin sheets. QRC will also provide supplies and tools to repair partially-damaged homes of 1,000 families and temporary shelters for 500 families whose homes were completely destroyed. The families will receive a month’s supply of food and essential non-food items. Qatar Red Crescent, Sheikh Eid Charity, RAF Foundation, and Al Asmakh Charity are receiving donations. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/qatar/261589-qr32m-aid-raised-for-philippines-and-somalia-in-3-hours-.html
