In line with the global observance this month of World Hypertension Day and World No Tobacco Day, Qatar Petroleum held a major event named “May Health Day 2013″ last Saturday to promote health awareness among the corporation’s employees and their families. The event, which was held at Al-Ghazal Club, was aligned with the recent directives of His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, to enhance QP’s efforts towards a smoke-free workplace and to effectively address hypertension, thus promoting a healthy lifestyle. “May Health Day 2013″ was organized by QP’s Medical Services Department under the guidance of Mr. Ahmad Ali Al-Mawlawi, Director Administration, and the theme of the event was “Enjoy Your Time, Improve Your Health.” “A healthy life brings wellness, and a healthy body delivers a healthy mind. We actively pursue our mandate in promoting health and wellness among QP employees and their family members through these events,” said Mr. Al-Mawlawi in his comments on the occasion. QP’s “May Health Day 2013″ began with a welcome address by Dr. Ahmad Al Badran, Acting Manager for Medical Services Department. In his speech, he complimented the ongoing efforts and initiatives related to occupational health and he reiterated the department’s full commitment towards health promotion and protection as he highlighted H.E. Dr. Al-Sada’s directives for a smoke-free workplace within QP. The events of the day started with interactive presentations by Dr. Ahmad Latif, Health Promotion Lead at QP, along with Dr. Sreekumar Padmanabhan, Medical Officer, Mr. Ebrahim Mohammadi, Senior Pharmacist, and Maryam Al Junaid, Nurse Specialist. The presentations focused on the health effects of obesity, hypertension and smoking, and a quiz competition was then held at the end of the presentations. Games and interactive sessions were also conducted during the event to capture the interest of the attendees, with the winners receiving attractive prizes and giveaway items. As part of the event, body mass index (BMI), heart health and lung function checks were held at the health stations set up at the venue, with support of the nursing team. Hend Aqeel, Dietician, was also on hand to provide guidance and information on healthy foods and proper nutrition. QP’s Pharmacy Care Services also provided advisory assistance on smoke cessation as it promoted its programs towards achieving a smoke-free life. Source : Qatar Chronicle
