QP gears up for National Sports Day 2013

Qatar Petroleum (QP) is finalizing preparations for the wide range of sports activities that will be conducted in all its onshore and offshore operational areas in line with this year's celebration of Qatar's National Sports Day on February 12 as reported by Qatar Chronicle. The various sports activities are being organized under the directives of His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry and Chairman & Managing Director of QP, and are strongly supported by the management and staff of QP's various directorates and departments. In the capital Doha, QP employees and their families will gather together at the Al-Ghazal Club and RAA Boat & Beach Club for a full day of sports competitions and other fun-filled activities. The sports events to be held will range from table tennis, beach volleyball, snooker and golf to billiards, football, tennis, basketball and a walking marathon. Fitness workouts, yoga sessions and fun activities for kids are also among the scheduled activities to be held on Tuesday. In Dukhan, QP's Dukhan Operations is putting together an exciting lineup of activities that include football and volleyball tournaments as well as a tug-of-war and marathon. The Dukhan Water Sports Club, on the other hand, will host a beach volleyball competition and a regatta race, which is considered the most popular sport in the area. The National Sports Day celebration in Dukhan will conclude with a walkathon, which is expected to attract over 500 participants. QP's Industrial Cities Directorate, which covers both Mesaieed Industrial City and Ras Laffan Industrial City, will mainly hold its National Sports Day activities at the Mesaieed Sports Complex. Among the sports events to be held at the venue are cricket, football, basketball, rugby and hockey. In addition, a golf tournament will also be held at the Mesaieed Golf Club, while volleyball, tennis and badminton for ladies will be organized at the Al Shaheen Club. National Sports Day 2013 will also be celebrated in QP's offshore operational areas. In Halul Island, QP's Offshore Operations will be organizing a volleyball tournament, a 3-kilometer marathon and a tug-of-war among employees based on the island. At Production Station 2 (PS2), there will be competitions in pool, darts, 'babyfoot' or foosball, chess and arm wrestling. For their part, QP staff and contractor employees at Production Station 3 (PS3) will compete in darts, backgammon, billiards, chess, 'babyfoot' and table tennis. All winners of the sports competitions in QP's operational areas will be awarded with trophies, medals and gifts at the conclusion of National Sports Day celebrations on Tuesday.
