More than 500 people enjoyed the Hit the Building event organised by Qatar Olympic & Sports Museum (QOSM) and The Youth Company yesterday in front of Al Riwaq Doha Exhibition Space. The weekend has never been colourful as hundreds of people gathered together splattering Al Riwaq Doha with balloons filled with paint. The event featured live performances by several contestants of Youth Got Talent 2012 that was previously organised by The Youth Company. Visitors were entertained by Rosaset Alam, an Arab rap band, and beat boxing performance by Ahmad Aba-Zaid. Mohamed Farid, Marketing and Events Manager of QOSM, opened the event, which began at 2pm, by throwing the first balloon onto the wall. Balloons then were distributed to the participants, while a DJ spiced up the afternoon with up-beat music. The children also got the chance to leave their colourful handprint on the walls. The event was closed by The Last Stamp Group who did break dancing performance. In the end the logo of the exhibition “Olympics – Past & Present” was revealed on the fresh painted wall. Hit The Building is the first of its kind event in Qatar that let people from any age play with paint and splash them into the wall, which resulted to a huge artwork. The event was part of QOSM event programme, accompanying an exhibition of both ancient and modern Olympic Games, which highlights the history of the Olympics and their establishment in modern times. The exhibition “Olympics – Past & Present” will continue until June 30, 2013 at Al Riwaq Exhibition Space. “This art happening covered both; activities for youth and a social creative platform, which will be visible for the duration of the exhibition”, said Dr Christian Wacker, Director of QOSM. “Hit The Building is an exquisite event and we are pleased to provide such a great platform for people to interact and unquestionably work together to produce an amazing art that is beyond imagination,” said Aya Abu Issa, Acting Chief Executive Officer of The Youth Company. “We are fortunate to partner with Qatar Olympic & Sports Museum to hold this event as we have the same vision to create social integration and art is one of approachable ways to achieve it” Source : Qatar Chronicle
