The Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) and Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF) signed a $5 million deal in agreements to strengthen the prevention of violent extremism, on the sidelines of the 140th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) General Assembly.

The agreement was signed by Director General of the QFFD Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari and Executive Director of GCERF Dr Khalid Koser. QFFD will support GCERF activities through increasing knowledge of violent extremism and responding to it, helping communities build awareness among leaders on the signs and negative consequences of violent extremism, promoting community engagement, engaging the community in events to promote peace, and providing educational initiatives.

Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari said, "This agreement isn't the first between QFFD and GCERF rather than it is a continuation of this important partnership for the good causes. We are proud of this partnership and are particularly interested in their goals to address the problem of extremism around the world. Today we need to join together to combat the motives of violent extremism so that peace prevails and people enjoy a dignified life."

He added, "This is in line with the role of the State of Qatar in fighting extremism as the State of Qatar has continuously renewed its rejection of extremism."

GCERF supports local communities through supporting national governments and international partners to align their activities with local contexts and needs and building knowledge that enriches global understanding of how to strengthen community resilience to violent extremism.

Dr Koser said, "GCERF is very grateful to the State of Qatar for its continued and substantial support for our mission to boost local communities to become more resilient to the threat of violent extremism."

He added, "the State of Qatar has been a strong supporter of GCERF since its inception, and has helped nurture the only international organization dedicated to the prevention of violent extremism. With the State of Qatar's support, GCERF's funded projects have reached over two million people at risk of radicalization to violent extremism around the world. The new contribution will build on these initial successes and lessons learned, to widen our impact."
