Charity and Vodafone have raised funds for humanitarian aid and development through SouqIt.com. The money was generated through a series of fundraising activities. Fundraising auctions have been taking place every week on Vodafone’s new auction and classifieds site SouqIt.com, an online buy and sell site. SouqIt has already auctioned four Vodafone star numbers 77960000, 77340000, 3020220 and 77430000. It will auction two each week throughout the Holy Month of Ramadan. Besides, an iPhone 4 32GB and BlackBerry Torch 9800 are being auctioned weekly. To participate in the Qatar Charity auctions, interested people can join SouqIt at www.souqit.com and bid or buy any items on the site. Vodafone and Qatar Charity have also started an SMS campaign to raise funds. By sending an SMS with the word ‘Qatar Charity’ to the short code 97771, Vodafone customers can donate a fixed sum of QR5 that will be deducted from their balance. Customers who wish to donate more than QR5 can send an SMS to the short code as many times as they wish. SouqIt General Manager DeEtte Christie said: “We are delighted by the public response. SouqIt has received hundreds of bids helping to raise thousands of riyals. Everyone can support the humanitarian aid and Qatar Charity by participating in the remaining auctions. We’re happy to see Qatar Charity acting as a role model for other NGOs and charities that could use SouqIt as a way to raise money and awareness for their good works.” http://www.qatar-tribune.com/data/20110824/content.asp?section=nation2_2
