Shoppers in Qatar will soon have another outdoor market option as Mwani Qatar, the country’s ports management company announced a new port market will be opening soon at Ruwais Port by the end of the month.

The market would allow customers to purchase a large variety of international products from commercial ships that offload at Ruwais Port. The Port Market project is part of an accelerated next phase of the Ruwais Port development which hopes to position the location as new northern access point to commercial trade for Qatar.

Currently under construction, Mwani Qatar stated on Twitter today that the port will be opened to traders and the public later this year. The first stage of the market will span roughly 6,700 sqm of will also have a lounge, cafeteria, on-site mosque, rest-rooms, and administrative offices. A future expansion phase will eventually see an additional 3,200 sqm added to the current market space.

The aim of the Port Market is to generate a revival of commerce in the northern areas of Qatar and to solidify the port as a nerve centre for the trading of goods from neighbouring nations.

The second phase of the ongoing three phase port development would also see the creation of a regional commercial market that would meet the commercial needs of the communities on the northern side of the country.
