The Labour Ministry has said that 7,594 Qataris, both men and women, have been appointed to public and privates sector positions since the adoption of the Qatarization policy.
The National Manpower Department, which operates under the ministry, issued a statement yesterday saying the number of nationals appointed in the public sector has reached 3,556 — 1,754 men and 1,802 women.
The report showed that nationals appointed in the private sector included 4,038 men and 2,160 women.
The policy of nationalising jobs was designed to increase the number of nationals in all joint venture industries, government departments and the private sector. A Cabinet decision earlier had asked the private sector to reserve 20 percent of the jobs for nationals. The Ministry of Labour’s proposal had urged the Cabinet to consider penalising the companies in case of failure to abide by the government’s initiatives on Qatarization.
To help job-seeking nationals work efficiently in the private sector, the Department of Labour had organised a number of training courses in coordination with specialized institutions.
