Many Qatari women refuse to join the job market due to mixed gender working environment, calling on authorities to set up a separate section for women to protect their privacy.
In the same way, many parents, brothers and husbands do not allow women to work in mixed environment, Al Raya has reported.
A study by the Guidance Section at Human Resources Department of the Ministry of Labour has called to provide job opportunities for women in a section exclusively for them.
Mohammed Saad Al Muraikhi, Director of the department, said the recruitment strategy sees no gender.
Mixed gender working environment is a concern for women because it is a social issue and people have differing views on this, said Al Muraikhi.
“I think social perspective is a key factor that women are reluctant to work in a mixed environment,” he added.
He said Qatar has signed ILO Convention No 111, a convention which prohibits discrimination in gender, religion, race, political opinion and social origin with regard to employment.
