The Ministry of Interior (MOI) announced on 24 May 2023 that an individual who had been missing in Qatari waters for almost 24 hours has been rescued and recovered by the Air and Maritime Search and Rescue teams of the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security and the Internal Security Force 'Lekhwiya'.

The Emiri Navy and the Emiri Air Force also supported the rescue efforts.

The individual was identified as a Korean national who was aboard a merchant ship and had fallen off.

The ship crew had alerted authorities, based on which the intense search operations were carried out in the marine areas surrounding the ship.

Marine media and helicopters were also used in the search operations.

The rescued individual was taken to Hamad Hospital for the necessary medical treatment.
