Qatari flag hoisted atop Mt Kilimanjaro FERNANDO de Guama, a Lebanese expatriate, has raised the Qatari flag on Mount Kilimanjaro, which at 5,895m is the highest peak in Africa. According to QNA, de Guama, who has been living in Qatar for more than nine years, hoisted the national flag on the mountain top early this month. De Guama had announced in April that his adventures were a result of his own initiative and that he wanted to express his appreciation for Qatar. He started training for his expeditions in April. He said he wanted to plant the Qatari flag on the North Pole in 2009. “Most of the training is meant for acclimatizing to the different weather conditions,” he said. He is expected to end his excursions next April. GT
