Qatari dress mandatory for students The traditional Qatari dress would be obligatory for all male students at independent and government schools whether nationals or expatriates, a report published yesterday in the Arrayah Arabic newspaper said. “All the school students will be required to comply with the new regulations of the dress by wearing a thobe, jutra and ijal. The code aims at unifying the school uniform for all male students whether nationals or expatriates,” an official at the Education Institute of the Supreme Council of Education, who spoke on anonymity was quoted as saying to the daily. However, the official said that expatriate students would be only exempted from wearing jutra and ijal. “Although wearing the three items - thobe, jutra and ijal - would be obligatory for Qatari male students, it would be up to the expatriate students to wear the jutra and ijal,” he added. GT This is great. It's nice to have a uniform which matches traditional dress. Just as in Japan you have to wear a specific uniform whatever your nationality and the same goes for many other coutnries. Expats can now experience the coolness of the thobe and its comfort. However, please note that the author in the Gulf Times obviously isn't arabic because it's not JUTRA and IJAL. It is pronounced GHITRA and IGAL.
