Qatari Diar awarded Barwa contract

Barwa Real Estate Company yesterday awarded main contract for the second phase of Doha Exhibition Centre and Tower (DECT) to Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company. The second phase includes the construction of a New Doha Exhibition Center. Phase one of the DECT involved completing the project’s foundation works while the tender for Phase 3, the building of the tower and commercial center which was floated a few months ago, will be awarded during the second quarter of this year, a statement issued by Barwa said. Designed by the renowned architect Helmut Jahn, whose famous designs include the Deutsche Post Tower in Germany and Sony Center in Berlin, the 125,000 sqm project consists of an Exhibition Center featuring a range of world renowned retail shops and brands, in addition to a big space destined to become a venue for major regional and international exhibitions. The project will have a 112-storey tower, next door to the exhibition center that includes a 5 star hotel, luxury office spaces and residential apartments offering a panoramic view of the Doha skyline and corniche and catering for a wide segment of businesses operating in Qatar. Khalid Al-Delaimi, vice President of Local Projects Development, Barwa Real Estate, said: “This project is one of Barwa’s mega projects in our precious land of Qatar.
